About Tucson Clean & Beautiful

TCB is a non-profit environmental advocacy and action organization founded in 1985 to preserve and improve our environment, conserve natural resources, and enhance quality of life in the City of Tucson and eastern Pima County. These goals are achieved through educational and hands-on programs emphasizing personal action in recycling and waste reduction, land stewardship, urban forestry and beautification. Originally established to keep our community litter-free, TCB has grown to coordinate programs and projects with a diversity of partners including government agencies, community groups, businesses, and the support of thousands of volunteers. Programs are supported by grants, memberships, business and personal donations, in-kind donations of materials and services.

Benefits of Planting and Maintaining Desert Trees

TCB Programs

Urban forestry is the management and care of tree populations in urban settings for the purpose of improving the urban environment. It involves the planning, establishment, protection, and maintenance of trees in city landscapes. This discipline aims to enhance the quality of life within urban areas by providing various environmental and aesthetic benefits. These benefits include air purification, temperature regulation, noise reduction, and the creation of green spaces for recreation. Urban forestry also contributes to biodiversity by providing habitats for various species. It’s a critical component of sustainable urban development, helping to create healthier, more livable urban communities.

The overall objective of the program is to build climate-resilient communities through using neighborhood-based, participatory green infrastructure projects to increase public open space, improve public and environmental health and quality of life.

Neighborhoods benefit from harvesting stormwater when projects include trees and vegetation. Communities are cooler. Recreation is encouraged. Property values increase. Air quality improves. Traffic slows down. Trees create a sense of place. Quality of life is enhanced, and stormwater management improves during small rain events.

Land stewardship refers to the responsible management and care of land and natural resources with the aim of preserving ecological integrity, biodiversity, and sustainability for present and future generations. Land stewardship often involves collaboration between government agencies, non-profit organizations, private landowners, and community groups to achieve shared conservation goals and promote responsible land management practices. At Tucson Clean and Beautiful, we strive to provide our community with the resources they need to claim and preserve available locations to upkeep.
