Stormwater:  Protecting & Embracing a Precious Resource

Rain is precious and increasingly rare in the desert. By collecting stormwater and directing it to sustain desert trees and vegetation we can make our community cooler, more livable, and more resilient to extreme heat and drought.

Join the second installment of the Tucson Clean & Beautiful Speaker Series to learn about pollutants often found in our stormwater; actions we can take to keep stormwater clean; benefits of installing infrastructure to harvest the rain; and resources available to help you and your neighborhood make the most of our rare gifts of rain.

Marie Light, a hydrogeologist with Pima County Department of Environmental Quality, will discuss: what is typically found in the stormwater sampling done by PDEQ; how we can prevent stormwater pollution; and how infrastructure designed to embrace the rain can be beneficial in many ways.

Jon Choi, TCB Program Manager, will highlight how the Tucson Water GSI Mini Grant program can be used to help capture stormwater runoff from neighborhood streets, parking lots, and buildings and use it to create treasured neighborhood green space.

TCB Administers the Tucson Water GSI Mini-Grants Program which is funded through the Water Conservation Fund. Approximately $42,000 is available for projects each year within each City Ward. Jon will explain the program, and how to apply, and show you how a GSI Mini Grant can help solve drainage challenges and improve public space in your neighborhood while simultaneously greening, connecting, and cooling our community.
